Apply for PAN Card through NSDL/UTITSL online or one can download PAN card Form 49A or Download Application Form the PAN Card attached at the end of the article. So PAN Card applicant has the option of apply PAN card online or physically. One can file PAN Card Application online through NSDL or UTIITSL. While Apply for PAN Card through Online portal one must be careful in filling the application form as you can’t change the online PAN Application form after submitting. PAN Card Form 49A is to be filled for New PAN Card issuance. Once online PAN Card Application is successfully submitted 15 digit acknowledgment number is generated for NSDL applicant and 8 digit coupon number is generated for UTI applicant.
Points to be taken care while Apply for PAN Card:
- One must be ready with Proof of Identity and name in the PAN Card must match with that proof of identity
- One must be ready with Proof of address and address in the PAN Card must match with that proof of address which has been submitted at the time of PAN card Application.
Points to be taken care off after submission of online PAN Card Application following things to be done
- Save the submitted PAN Card Application and take the print out of the PAN Card Application form 49A.
- Paste the two recent color photograph in the space provided. Size of the photograph should be 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm with white background.
- Applicant should sign or Left Thumb Impression in the box given in the acknowledgment generated after submission of online PAN Card Application. Please note that if Thumb impression used, should be attested by a Magistrate or a Notary Public or a Gazetted Officer under official seal and stamp.

- The fee for processing PAN application is Rs. 96
- Payment can be made either by Demand Draft, Cheque, Credit Card/Debit Card, Net Banking
- If any of addresses i.e. office address or residential address is a foreign address, the payment can be made only by way of Demand Draft payable at Mumbai. Demand draft and cheque should be drawn in favor of ‘NSDL – PAN’
- If communication Address is outside India, The fee for processing PAN application is 962.00
- (Application fee 85.00 + Dispatch Charges 771.00) + 12.36% service tax]. Payment can be made only by way of Demand Draft payable at Mumbai.
- The acknowledgement duly signed, affixed with photograph (in case of ‘Individuals’) along with Demand Draft, if any, and proof of identity (name in the application should be same as in the proof of identity) & proof of address (Individuals, HUFs, Body of Individuals, Association of Persons & Artificial Juridical Person should provide proof of address of residence stated in the application) as specified in the application form is to be sent to NSDL at ‘Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411016.
- Super scribe the envelope with ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN – Acknowledgement Number’ (e.g. ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN – 123456789012345’)
As per Rule 114 of Income Tax Rules List of Documents for PAN Card Application
If applicant is Individual who is a citizen of India,
(i) Proof of identity—
Copy of,
(a) school leaving certificate; or
(b) matriculation certificate; or
(c) degree of a recognised educational institution; or
(d) depository account; or
(e) credit card; or
(f) bank account; or
(g) water bill; or
(h) ration card; or
(i) property tax assessment order; or
(j) passport; or
(k) voter identity card ; or
(l) driving licence; or
(m) certificate of identity signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councillor or a Gazetted Officer, as the case may be.
In case of a person being a minor, any of the above documents of any of the parents or guardian of such minor shall be deemed to be the proof of identity.
(ii) Proof of address—
Copy of,—
(a) electricity bill; or
(b) telephone bill; or
(c) depository account; or
(d) credit card; or
(f) ration card; or
(g) employer certificate; or
(h) passport; or
(i) voter identity card; or
(j) property tax assessment order; or
(k) driving licence; or
(l) rent receipt; or (e) bank account; or
(m) certificate of address signed by a Member of Parliament or Member of Legislative Assembly or Municipal Councillor or a Gazetted Officer, as the case may be.
Note 1 : In case of a minor, any of the above documents of any of the parents or guardian of such minor shall be deemed to be the proof of address.
Note 2 : In case of an Indian citizen residing outside India, copy of Bank Account Statement in country of residence or copy of Non-resident External (NRE) bank account statements.
If Applicant is Hindu undivided family
(a) an affidavit by the karta of the Hindu Undivided Family stating the name, father’s name and address of all the coparceners on the date of application; and
(b) copy of any document applicable in the case of an individual specified in serial number 1, in respect of karta of the Hindu undivided family, as proof of identity and address.
If Applicant is Company registered in India
Copy of Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Companies.
If Applicant is Firm (including Limited Liability Partnership) formed or registered in India
(a) copy of Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Firms/Limited Liability Partnerships; or (b) copy of Partnership Deed.
If applicant is Individuals not being a citizen of India(NRI)
(i) Proof of identity :—
(a) copy of Passport; or
(b) copy of person of Indian Origin card issued by the Government of India; or
(c) copy of Overseas Citizenship of India Card issued by Government of India; or
(d) copy of other national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number duly attested by “Apostille” (in respect of countries which are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961) or by Indian embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located.
(ii) Proof of address:—
(a) copy of Passport; or(b) copy of person of Indian Origin card issued by the Government of India; or
(c) copy of Overseas Citizenship of India Card issued by Government of India; or
(d) copy of other national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number duly attested by “Apostille” (in respect of countries which are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961) or by Indian embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the applicant is located; or
(e) copy of bank account statement in country of residence; or
(f) copy of Non-resident External bank account statement in India; or
(g) copy of certificate of residence in India or Residential permit issued by the State Police Authority; or
(h) copy of the registration certificate issued by the Foreigner’s Registration Office showing Indian address; or
(i) copy of Visa granted and copy of appointment letter or contract from Indian Company and Certificate (in original) of Indian Address issued by the employer.
